Cambridge, Ontario - the first stop of my Canadian adventure
Cambridge is around 100 km South of Toronto next to the river "Grand River". Its population is around 120.000.
The city itself reminds me very much of a European city. A big difference is the shape of the city in terms of living space. Most of the people like the students don't live in apartments but in normal houses which you would usually only find in the periphery of German cities of this size.
The University of Waterloo School of Architecture campus is located in the former Riverside Silk Mill at Grand River. For this reason you meet a lot of architecture students in the city. A little disturbing is the high amount of crack addicts in the city who contrast with the well-styled, young architects.
There are a lot more different kinds of Christian communities with their own churches, like Presbyterian and Baptist ones, than in German cities.
The Grand River Railway, a former important transportation route, was transformed into a great bike trail along the riverside. Riding this route you find an old, abandoned mill and some stunning river vistas (which for the first time made me think: Oh, I'm in Canada...besides the high concnetration of SUVs of course).
Next stop is Toronto!
